The SmartWork project is developing a set of services to facilitate a "Smart, Age-Friendly Living and Working Environment", addressing the challenges faced by office workers as they grow old. These services address aspects like accessibility, work-flexibility, and health in the office work environment. One of the services that is targetting health is called the "HealthyMe" service, and it consists of various data-collection components, reasoning (AI) components, and front-end applications for web and mobile. The HealthyMe mobile application includes a virtual companion, called Amelia. You can see her in action in some of the mobile application design screenshots below.

Amelia's dialogue is driven by the WOOL Platform, allowing the health experts to directly contribute to the health monitoring and coaching content provided by the coach. Additionally, the SmartWork project will focus on improving the intelligence of Amelia, through additional features of the WOOL Platform and integration with intelligent background services.

Project Information: SmartWork is a research project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 Framework (Grant Agreement #826343). The project is running from January 2019 to December 2021 and is executed by a European consortium, consisting of: Byte (GR), University of Patras (GR), Raising the Floor International (CH), Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra (PT), Roessingh Research and Development (NL), Instituto Pedro Nunes (PT), Spark Works (UK), University of Linköping (SE), Center for Assisted Living Technology (DK), and ECHAlliance (IE).

One of the core elements of the Council of Coaches project is the development of a proof of concept application in which older adult users can hold interactive dialogues with a group of virtual agents (or coaches). In Council of Coaches, users can select their personal group of coaches from a set of 7 available characters, including a physical activity coach, diet coach or social coach (see Figure below). The focus in this project is on having natural language dialogues with these coaches, about various topics related to healthy lifestyle and wellbeing. Council of Coaches combines such dialogues with various interactive "widgets" such as a recipe book provided by diet coach François, or a physical activity logbook provided by activity coach Olivia.

Not only is Council of Coaches powered by the WOOL Platform, the project is the birthground of this open source dialogue platform. As of April 2020 the Council of Coaches project is still ongoing, and a public demonstrator is expected to be released around the end of the project period, in August 2020.
